The AFC After School Program, a part of our educational efforts to share French language and culture, has served Albemarle County and Charlottesville City Schools since 2009. Led by a dedicated team of passionate and enthusiastic teachers, it welcomes more than a hundred elementary and middle schools students every semester.

Our unique program focuses on active communication and hands-on learning. Students do not stay seated on a chair while repeating grammar rules! For one hour every week, the language is learned through engaging activities such as games, crafts, cooking sessions, songs, role play etc. No prerequisite required.

A new topic is introduced every semester so students have a chance to enlarge their vocabulary and knowledge about French speaking countries and cultures. List of topics offered includes the following themes: Let’s go to Paris, A road trip to Normandy and Brittany, Festivals in the French speaking world, Let’s build a French city, Survival skills for a Parisian Tourist, Survival French in Paris.

Also available - every Spring a 4-week- program focused on Art.

What is the difference between our After-School program and our K-12 program?

Our After-School program includes a craft and is an initiation to French. The K-12 program is more of an academic experience with the expectation that in between lessons, participants study and review concepts taught in class. Homework for the K-12 program may be required.
