  • I have been attending classes at the AFC for over three years now and have learned a great deal in our small classes. Instruction is well planned and the interaction with the other students as well as the excellent teachers, even on zoom, has been ideal. J. (March 2021)

  • I have taken classes at the AFC for years and I am always improving my language skills and learning new things about French culture and history. I have only recently started attending the free members' events and I am kicking myself for not taking advantage sooner. The teachers and students are all wonderful! K. (March 2021)

  • I started with AFC about 5 months ago. From the first email, everyone has been kind and responsive. I got to sit in on a class for free to see if it was something that would work for me. After 3 sessions of classes, my French is improving dramatically and I look forward to my class each week! L. (March 2021)

  • My literature class though the AFC has been a lifeline for me in this time of isolation. Not only do I enjoy the mental stimulation of our weekly discussions, but I also delight in seeing and chatting with friends newly made through our common love of French. S. (March 2021)

  • The online classes for AFC have been a game-changer for me. I live in Richmond and am active in the AF there, but we don't have course offerings in our AF. I love that I've been able to advance my French during the pandemic and make new friends along the way as well! S. (April 2021)

  • Learning French at AFC has been an excellent experience. Not only am I pleased with my progress learning the language, I am also very happy with the tenor of the class—supportive, relaxed, and comfortable. As someone who has always considered himself a bad student of languages, it’s been a revelation to study in an environment in which, as my teacher likes to say, “there are no stupid questions.”  R. (March 2021)

  • We are so fortunate to have AFC in our community. I've been improving my French through the abundant skill, patience and enthusiasm of its teachers and staff. If you want to nudge your fluency and joy to the next level, come to the AFC. M. (March 2021)

  • Claude is a superb teacher: always prepared, focused, enthusiastic, and devoted to her work and to her students. She builds proficiency and confidence. Warm, welcoming, encouraging and kind, she makes a class feel like a family. I’m a lifelong admirer of anything French: food, fashion, art, literature, and language. For me, AFC is a good fit! J. (March 2021)

  • My husband and I started A1 last year just a couple of weeks before everything shut down. We've enjoyed our weekly online classes with Pascale and our small group of classmates! AFC has done a really great job of offering a variety of programs online until we can return to in-person activities. E. (March 2021)

  • The AFC has not only improved my French but enhanced my social life! I really enjoy the monthly events. I was nervous when everything moved online due to covid- but I am really enjoying the online classes. I highly recommend the AFC! A. (March 2021)

  • Studying French grammar is one thing, but learning to use it in translation takes one's knowledge of the language up to a whole different level. In the AFC translation course, we learned not just from the teacher, but each other. A real adventure, as passionately interesting as it was fun! M. (March 2021)

  • The Art of Translation class is a great way to improve my grammar without actually having to study grammar! Translating from French to English, or what is harder, English to French, requires reviewing and changing and reviewing again - in my mind almost a game…which I frequently lose, but reinforces areas I need to work on. Pascale is an excellent teacher and very supportive. We have fun. J. (April 2021)

  • The B2 Explorations Littéraires class is an outstanding class which I’ve attended for several years. We read French literature (modern and not-so-modern). Claude Batson leads an in-depth discussion during which she frequently includes historical, political and cultural references. Challenging, unfailingly interesting, and fun. J. (April 2021)

  • I had a wonderful private tutoring experience from January through March this year. It was simply one of the best foot forwards I took to continue my lifelong desire to learn French. Murielle was friendly professional, supportive, prepared, cultivated and a superb listener. She totally put me at ease as I paused and sputtered my way through gaining fluency in French. M. (April 2019)

  • I've had a wonderful experience at the AFC. Teachers are friendly and enthusiastic. I appreciate their flexibility to meet students' needs to make it work. They are always looking for opportunities to experience the French culture even virtually. M. (April 2021)

  • Our children have been participating in the children’s programs of the Alliance Française for the last two years and we cannot say enough wonderful things. Our children bounce out of each meeting of Le Club using their French and with smiles on their faces. As parents, we are endlessly impressed with the director’s imagination, commitment to the AFC, and genuine interest in broadening our children’s horizons. We are so grateful to have an organization like the AFC in our community. H. (June 2019)

  • AFC, vous êtes un vrai trésor!! Chez-vous, j'ai trouvé les meilleurs profs, des nouveaux amis, et bien sûr, un amour de la langue française qui croît chaque semaine! Vous me rendez très heureuse! S. (February 2019)
