                    MEMBER IN THE SPOTLIGHT

                    Paulien Brikkenaar van Dijk

“L’Amour toujours” is what Paulien likes singing best, and her latest recordings compile French songs which have become classics on both sides of the ocean, either in their original version or in translation. The project, which started a year ago, takes Paulien back to her first love, la Chanson française, for which she won a local competition in her home town in The Netherlands at age twelve and was awarded a recording deal by the French ambassador.

Well known in Europe since the mid-nineties through her recordings sung in French, Paulien hit the top ten in Europe and the Far East with her re-make of the classic song “Dominique”. Her version even led the Japanese charts for six weeks in a row.

Backed by bandleader and pianist Tony Nalker and the East Coast’s finest jazz musicians, Paulien recently presented her new repertoire to audiences in the Washington DC area. The public was enthousiastic and she received calls for encores at all venues including the famous Blues Alley.

Today Paulien resides in Charlottesville. As a member of the Alliance Francaise de Charlottesville, she has gratified our association with many a song.

Paulien’s voice is deep, direct and free from affectations.  In today’s world of hyped music, she is a sophisticated singer with a pure voice that will haunt you for a long time.
